Social Effort Program toward  Decentralitation of Natural Resources Management Based on Community in the Southern Part of Sumatra that is called Community Based Forest Management Program (CBFM) is a coorporation of WARSI with it’s networking in West Sumtra, Bengkulu, Jambi dan South Sumatra.

This activity is conducted in four provinces with different thypology areas that covered the areas locating in protected area, National Park, Consession area, HPH, HTI, big private oil plam plantation, transmigration area and area that is managed by traditional community. 

Techincally for each province directly facilitated by WARSI’s networking :

1. In West Sumatra, the activity is facilitated by KOMMA FPUA and Bina Kelola, and located in Koto Malitang village,

2. In Jambi is facilitated by Gita Buana and PKBI Jambi, and located in Batu Kerbau (Pelepat, Bungo Regency) and Guguk village (Sungai Manau , Merangin Regency)

3. In South Sumatra is facilitated by LBH Palembang, Yadarma and PKBI South Sumatra, and  located in eks area of Benokat Tribe (Gunung Megang, Muara Enim Regency) and,

4. In Bengkulu is facilitated by PKBI Bengkulu and Gemini Foundation, and located in Ladang Palembang (North Lebong, Rejang Lebong Regency)

Currently, the activity  in the four provinces focus to diagnostic fase in order to get  complete image pictures of each area by focusing on activity sosialitation, data base colletion and village structure comprehension,  local manner, community aspiration and traditional wisdom in natural resource management  using  RRA, PRA and Partisipative Inventory methods.

5. Initiate stakeholder’s the capacity buliding in decentralitation procces in Forest Resouces Management

6. Facilitate Independently Obsevation

7. Institutional and networking strategic strengthening.

Output :

1. Model of community based  forest resouces management in Southern Sumatra

2. The base map of location

3. Cummunity participation in forest resources management

4. Condussive and tranparant condition in forest resources management decentralitation activities among parties

5. Policy regulation that aprove the forms of forest resources management by the community

6. Documentation on the learning process that become an agenda for the learning tim.

Objective of  CBFM program :

General : To support the community based forest management and community tradition to increase their wealthfare in guareantee of the forest preservation and biodiversity.

Specific :

1. To strengthen solidarity among custom , aknowladge the local actions and initiate alternatives in forest resources management based on costum acknowledment and behaviour thourgh intensive the community assistance and paralegal tranining.

2. To document the sustainable forest management system based on local custom through participative mapping.

3. To observe for a legal aspect chance in developing CBFM program in Indonesia  through traditonal area mapping

4. Sosialize CBFM toward the local government and council, and discuss a change for aproving the CBFM from the local government .

The CBFM was set up for two years program, started in Mei 2000 up to April 2002 funded by The Ford Foundation USA.
