Sumatran Rhinos and Tigers Trade Monitoring Unit (1999 - 2002)

Sumatran Rhino (Dicerorhinus sumatraensis) dan Sumatran Tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) are two of mammals species that are almost extinct. While their spreading and habitat that is only in Sumatra has been fragmanted and damaged.

In the past, the main threat that cause the Javanesse Tiger (  Panthera tigris sondaica) and Balinesse Tiger (Panthera tigris balica) extinct was the habitat reducing, but lately in 1980,  the biologists were shocked when they knew that there were a lot of demand of Rhino’s and tiger’s products for Asian traditional medicine. The dominan threat was from the illegal hunting to get certain organs of Rhino’s and Tiger’s that make the animals became very rare.

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF Indonesia), an independent that has orientation for natural conservation coorporated with WARSI started April 1990 until this time in trade monitoring for Sumatran Rhinos (Dicerorhinus sumatraensis) and Sumatran Tigers (Panthera tigris sumatrae).
